Childhood obesity has become a national concern with First Lady Michelle Obama making it one of her top initiatives. Exercise and eating healthy foods are things that kids need to be taught. With busy parents having little time to do anything for dinner except grab take out or fast food and kids being allowed to zone out playing video games or on the computer, a healthy and active lifestyle may be something that most kids today, know nothing about.
The Sacramento Kings have partnered with the California Endowment, the Sacramento City Unified School District and UC Davis Health System to create the "Get Fit with the Kings" program. The focus of this initiative is to teach Sacramento-area youth the importance of creating and living a healthy lifestyle and to encourage young people to unplug their tech gadgets and get at least 3o minutes of exercise per day.
Host Jodie Moreno spoke with Sacramento Kings Dance Team Manager and Game Day Host, Jennifer Santich and UC Davis Health System Dietitian, Greg Wine about the program, the impact it's making on kids and how to parents and their kids can make healthier choices during the holiday season.
