SACRAMENTO, CA- For the first time in six years, section-eight vouchers will become available once again in Sacramento county.
The housing authority of the county of Sacramento will accept applications beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday, June 4.
Tenants can only apply online until Friday night. Agency workers believe they'll receive more than 100-thousand applications.
While many thousands of families may apply, a total of 3,000 applicants will be placed on the wait list and will be chosen randomly, according to a statement from the housing authority.
SHRA assistant director Maryliz Paulson said the downtrodden economy is making more people ask for help, but the program can only support three thousand applicants, this is compared to 10,000 allowed in last time.
SHA experts say that the need for affordable housing has risen dramatically because of the nationwide economic downturn, and that funding for such programs is decreasing.
