YELLOWSTONE - An 18-year-old woman died this week after she accidentally fell during a hike at Yellowstone National Park, according to a statement released by the park.
It was the teen's first day on the job as a Yellowstone concession employee.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was hiking in an area called the "Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone" with three other people when she ventured out off trail.
Loose rock gave way underneath her and she plunged about 400 feet to her death, Reuters reports. Her lifeless body was later recovered.
"Fatal falls are relatively rare at Yellowstone, accounting for fewer than a dozen deaths - among millions of visitors - over the past 30 years," Reuters reports.
